Online Lessons

How do online lessons work?

We use Zoom's video conferencing platform. On the morning of your lesson, you will receive an email with a link to a 'Zoom meeting.' Simply click the link and join the meeting to begin your lesson. First time Zoom users will be prompted to download the platform. It's quick and easy!

Do I need any special technology?

All you need is a computer, laptop, or an iPad. Your phone will also work, but is not ideal because of the smaller screen size. Headphones or earbuds are recommended to eliminate background noise.

Are there things I can do to make my virtual lesson more successful?

You can find a quiet space to setup, like a bedroom or an office with a closed door. If you have the option of using a hard-wired ethernet port, such as on a desktop computer, this will typically offer a better Zoom connection. Headphones or earbuds will help to eliminate background noise.

What instruments can I learn?

We currently offer virtual singing, piano, guitar, and music theory lessons.

Do you teach beginners?

Yes. Our students range from complete beginners to experienced musicians!

Are there age requirements for your students?

We teach children and adults. Children must be at least in Grade 1 or six years old. To help with Zoom setup and lesson focus, it may be helpful for a parent to be in the room with younger children during lessons. Voice students must be at least 9 years old.

Am I expected to practice outside of my lesson time?

Good practice habits are crucial for improvement. We recommend 20 minutes of dedicated practice 5 days a week. This will help solidify playing or singing technique and will allow lessons to move more quickly. However. You may not have the time. You may prefer to sing or play simply for fun. Your lessons are YOUR time. If regular musical practice isn't in the cards for you, we will make that work!

What styles of music can I learn?

We teach classical, jazz, musical theatre, folk, and pop music. If you have specific song requests, submit them on your booking form so we can prepare the music.

Payments & Policies

How do I pay for lessons?

We require all payments to be completed by credit card through our website, prior to your scheduled lesson time. You have the option of signing up for weekly lessons (same day & time each week) or purchasing a lesson package, which you schedule on your own.

Weekly lessons will be billed monthly on the 1st of the month. Lesson packages are purchased in groups of 5.

What is your lesson cancellation policy?

If you sign up for weekly lessons (same day & time each week), that spot is yours to keep. We do not offer refunds or cancellations for students signed up for a weekly lesson spot. If you are ill or on vacation, you will be offered a recorded lesson that your teacher will create during your designated lesson time and deliver to you by email. Lessons booked with a pre-paid package can be rescheduled or cancelled with 24 hours or more notice.

Do you offer family discounts?

We do not offer family discounts. However, family members living in the same household may share a lesson package.

Can I share my lesson package with someone?

You may share a lesson package with immediate family members living in the same household. You may not share a class card with anyone outside of your immediate family.

Do you offer trial lessons?

We do not offer a free trial lesson, however you may book a one-time lesson to see if it is a good fit.

What is your refund policy?

See the cancellation policy FAQ for information about cancelling lessons. All lesson packages are non-refundable. We suggest all new students book a one-time single lesson before commiting to purchase a package. Students with a weekly lesson spot that wish to terminate lessons must provide one month's written notice.

Do lesson packages expire?

All lessons purchased with a package are valid for four months after the purchase date. Unused lessons are non-refundable.

Can I use a keyboard instead of a piano?

Yes. For beginners, a shortened keyboard will work fine. For intermediate or advanced students, a full 88-key piano or keyboard is recommended.

Will I be required to purchase books or learning materials?

This will be determined between you and your teacher in the first few lessons. Piano and music theory students may be asked to buy method books.

We do not require masks for in person lessons. For guitar, piano, and music theory students that wish to wear a mask, you are more than welcome to!

What are your physical distancing measures for in person lessons?

For guitar students, we ask that you sit 2 metres away from your teacher and bring your own instrument. If you use one of our instruments, we will sanitize before and after. For piano students, we will use two different keyboards, one for you and one for your teacher, and we will ask that you sit 2 metres apart. The keyboards will be sanitized before and after lessons. For voice students, we ask that you stand 2 metres away from your teacher. All students are required to print their own materials or use their own iPad or tablet to minimize touching or close contact during lessons.

I'm feeling under the weather. What should I do about my lesson?

We are asking all of our students to be abundantly cautious in self-monitoring symptoms. If you or your family members are experiencing ANY cold or flu sympmtons, we will require that you opt for a Zoom lesson instead of an in person lesson.
